not really the more i research it doesnt seem to be much of a difference between 31's and 32's.    Ur jeep really doesnt look bad at all with the 31's so i think i might just stick with 31's and bump up the lift a little.     would save me more money for a locker or something anyway  biggrin

Im very happy with its ability to cruise along doign 60-65 on highway with the 31s.  i live in western pa so there are decent hills that i can still pull half decent.  I have no problem with being slow on the highway im in no hurry to get anywhere.  i have been reading thru some searches that the 33s will really make it a dog with 4.10s and i cant see how going up on size to 32s is going to kill its driveability that much.    Does anyone have pics of 3-3.5" lift on 32's?

sorry i seem to be asking alot of questions but i like to bounce ideas around and get as many oppinions as possible before making a major change on the jeep.
Well, 33's are more common then 32's.  If you're worried then have you considered 33x10.5R15's or 33x9.5R15's instead of the 33x12.5R15's.  They will have a narrower profile and so, they will be lighter then standard 33's.  They have a narrower profile then 32's so they won't catch the wind as much.  Gearing shouldn't be an issue.

this is my daily driver so that is why im so interested in making sure i dont kill its driveability.   Is it even worth it to stick with the 4.10s and 33s or will it be to much a pain on the highway?   should i just go straight to getting 4.88s.    I do offroad fairly often so this is a practical situation for me, plus i got a few friends with 33s and i really like the looks but they have the 6cyl and dont worry about the power

IMHO, with 4.10 I would not go any taller than 31's.  I have posted many times, when I had 4.88 and 31's, I was ona happy camper.  With 4.88 and 33's, I feel I am missing a bit of umph!  I wish I could go to 5.13's now, but that would mean two new axles, two new ARB lockers, and new rings an pinions, and I simplly cannot afford that at this time...

Now, 4.10 with 31's is driveable, but if there is anything similar to a head wind or an upgrade, you'll be driving in 4th gear.  With 33's and 4.88 it is a tiny little bit better than 4.10 and 31's, but not that much.  With 31's and 4.88, you can roll on 5th gear even with overpasses and such (I would set my aftermarket cruise control to 65mph, and it would be able to maintain it even with headwinds and overpasses; now with 33's, I have to do this on 4th gear).

I have 4.88's with 33's and its good. would go 5.13s or 5.33s if the diff would take it. you can hold fifth gear with 4.88's but it will lug on slight hills and what not. if you don't care and take your time it will hold 50-60mph and get decent mpg's doing it that way.

when your lifted and run 33's on stock brakes and axles do you really want to go any faster then 50-60mph?

It really depend.  How fast do you drive on the highways?  50-55mph, I'd say it's livable.  65-75MPH, no.  If you didn't want to change gears then I'd go with 32's, 33x9.5R15's or 33x10.5R15's.  If you want to regear then you might as well go with 4.88's unless you want to do an axle swap while you're at it.  33's really need 5.13's to be happy.

If you live in SoCal and drive 10-15mph on these ridiculous freeways re-gearing wont be needed. But when it opens up you better go faster than 55mph or hell 65mph or the big rigs will run you off the road!

Go 33's then save up and shop around for gears and an install. Join some other site's with people in your area and you might get lucky and someone will do it for free(or Beer)!

I took my YJ out on the freeway for the first time since I did the regear and I was shocked...I could do 70 to 75 MPH in 5th gear... with ease! lol I haven't been able to do that since it was stock sitting on 30' all terrains.  I'm very happy with 4.88's. Now I just gotta see how it does on the trail/rocks in April.

i appreciate all the help everyone is giving me on this.     i did some research and found the one guy to be trusted to do re gears in my area and its looking like a 1200 dollar job  Cry

so i started to research a little more and i think that i will get a set of 33X9.50s.    while its not my ideal size they are lighter than my current 31" bajas which are very heavy and measure 32s.  I can def live with the bajas on the highway so im thinking the 33x9.50s will be better and more like my bfg all terrains.  I do know that one of my friends who got the 9.50s loves them and notices no difference from his 31s to them so i think i will just bite the bullet and settle for a narrow tire in the cause of practicallity.   biggrin

plus there is always next year for new gears!  dance

the gears are really nice to but I think you will find the 9.5's will work for ya. have you done the throttle body upgrade or any engine power adders?

That's a good point; a TB upgrade (ask bounty, he sells them), and an eFan conversion (can be done for under $50 with Junkyard parts) will make a big difference.  For a bit more, you can upgrade injectors, use a high flow filter, and improve ignition...  That would give you/free up some ponies, which should help on the highway.

i did the throttle body upgrade, i have been trying some different exhausts surprisingly the cherry bomb glasspack is my favorite thus far, im working on finding a set of 5.0l injectors and a better intake and an efan.    I can hold 80 with the bajas now if I want to but i never go over 60 most of the time so im thinking even if the 33s hurt me it wont be that big of a difference

i don't think the 5.0L injectors would work on yours (if you're thinking the yellow top 19#s) - TJ injectors are larger (EDIT: I meant bigger as in more flow).
